Raids
Raids are characterized as a type of Mission where large groups of players come together as a team to achieve difficult objectives. In Most MMOs (Massively Multiplayer Online), the majority of Raids cannot be completed Solo, and oftentimes require 5, 10 or even 40+ experienced players to complete.
As players progress through Raids they are met with increasingly difficult challenges. The final stage of a Raid usually concludes with a final boss battle. Once this boss is defeated, players are awarded with EXP, Virtual Currency and/or rare items. The more difficult the Raid, the greater the rewards.

Pokemon Go Raids should work in a similar way. As shown in the official Pokemon Go trailer, players in New York are notified that a Raid is starting nearby. Hundreds of players rush to New York, Times Square to participate as a Team in this particular Raid.
A countdown appears and the Raid objective is shown as "Defeat Mewtwo". A ten-minute timer starts and players begin attacking a Level 70 Mewtwo (Raid Boss) with their Pokemon. It can be seen that the Raid participants have Pokemon with Levels much lower than 70. Therefore, all of these players are encouraged to team up in order to defeat this very powerful Pokemon.
Just before time runs out, one Trainer’s Pikachu lands a final hit which reduces the Mewtwo’s HP to zero. There is a brief period of silence before “GOTCHA! Mewtwo was caught” lights up on the screen. At the same time, every Trainer that participated in the Raid received the same notification on their mobile device.

We know from the Trailer that one type of Raid will be a large scale event. This event will involve many Trainers teaming up to defeat a single powerful Pokemon. However, it remains to be seen what other types of Raids may be included in Pokemon Go.
Based on speculation, other Raids may include:
- Raids separated into multiple stages that become increasingly difficult as players progress.
- Smaller Raids, such as Teams of five or ten people. Rewards will be less valuable, but will be easier and require less effort to get to.
- Raids involving only certain Types of Pokemon. For example, a Raid taking place near a forest where only Grass and Bug Types roam. Players will obviously want to use their best Fire Type Pokemon for these Raids.
- Raids which only allow players to use certain Types of Pokemon. For example, one Raid may only allow entry of Water, Ground and Poison Type Pokemon. This would really add a new strategic element to Raids.

Being that each Pokemon Go player will have a Trainer Level, this could very well be an eligibility requirement for Raids. Raid Requirements may also have to do with the Level of your Pokemon.
Either way, certain Raids will either be too difficult for newer players or they may not even show up on a player’s Map until he or she has progressed past a set point in the game. To provide progression incentives to players, Raids with greater requirements should offer greater rewards.

All participants in the Pokemon Go Times Square Raid were rewarded with a captured Mewtwo. This illustrates the fact that players will be rewarded with Rare and/or High Level Pokemon for successful Raids. However, will specific Raids always give specific rewards? Will players be able to choose their reward after completing a Raid? Will Raid rewards be randomized?
