Upgrade

An Upgrade in Pokémon Go refers to a permanent account improvement. Unlike Items, which are single or multi-use, player purchased Upgrades will last forever (or at least as long as you continue playing Pokémon Go).

What Upgrades Are Available?
The following upgrades are available to players in Pokémon Go:

Inventory Upgrade: This will permanently increase the storage space for Items.
Pokemon Inventory Upgrade: This will permanently increase the storage space for Pokémon.

Importance of Upgrades
There are many different Items to collect and Pokémon to capture in Pokémon Go. However, there is a limit to the total amount of space that a player's inventory can hold. As a beginner, storage space is really not much of an issue, but in the later stages of the game, it can become an issue.

Many players choose to capture and keep different Pokémon (of the same species) for evolution purposes. Even though Evolution Shards are retained when a Pokémon is released, it is optimal to Evolve Pokémon with the highest CP level.

If your inventory is full, and you cannot bear to part with any Items Pokémon, or upgrading your storage may be the answer.

The Pokémart & Upgrade Costs
Visit the Pokémart to browse the list of upgrades available for purchase. To purchase upgrades and items at the Pokémart, Pokécoins will be required.

Inventory Upgrade: 200 Pokécoins
Pokemon Inventory Upgrade: 200 Pokécoins

Other Notes About Upgrades
- Upgrades are passive, meaning that once purchased they will automatically be enhance that player's account.
- Upgrades are generally more expensive than single use Items such as the Lucky Egg or Incense. Before spending Pokécoins, plan out which Upgrades or items you want most.

Pokémart

The Pokémart is a store that can be visited in Pokémon Go to purchase special Upgrades and Items.

Players can spend Pokécoins on permanent upgrades such as Increased Inventory Space (to hold more Items) and Increased Pokémon Storage (To store more Pokémon).
Items such as Pokéballs and Special Items such as Incubators, Lucky Eggs, Incense, etc. are also available for purchase at Pokémarts.

Tip: Check out the Pokémart first, to see which Item or Upgrade you would like most and remember the total cost. Next, save up your Pokécoins until you have enough to purchase that Item/Upgrade.

Note: Many new players will spend their Pokécoins on the first item they can afford, preventing them from ever having enough to purchase the best Upgrades or Items.

Camera

The Camera can be found in your Item list. When accessed, the Camera enables players to take pictures of wild Pokémon encounters, without needing to take a screenshot.

This allows players to take quickly take pictures of special encounters that can be stored and shared with friends and teammates. The Camera feature is very similar to that of an older N64 Pokemon game, Pokemon Snap.

Incense

Incense is a type of Item that can be purchased from the Pokémart by spending Pokécoins.

Incense can be purchased in quantities of 1x, 4x or 8x.

When used, Incense will increase the number of Pokémon that appear nearby for a 30 minute period of time before wearing off.

Much like that of the Lucky Egg, immediately after using Incense, a timer will appear on the screen and start counting down.

There are three different types of Incense that can be purchased:
Ordinary Incense: Basic
Floral Incense: More powerful than Ordinary Incense.
Spicy Incense: More powerful than Ordinary and Floral.

Lucky Egg

A Lucky Egg is an Item that can be purchased from the Pokémart by spending Pokécoins.

When used, the Lucky Egg will grant double XP for 30 minutes. Immediately after using the item, a timer will appear on the screen and start counting down.

The Pokémart offers Lucky Eggs in quantities of 1x, 5x and 20x.

Tip: After using the Lucky Egg, focus on actions that will award the highest XP, such as capturing new Pokémon, Hatching Eggs and Evolving Pokémon to maximize total XP gains.

Egg Incubator

An Egg Incubator is an Item that can be purchased from the Pokémart by spending Pokécoins.

The main purpose of Incubators is to hatch Eggs. Trainers can carry around Eggs (collected from Pokéstops), but they will not begin hatching until put inside an Incubator.

After traveling certain distance with an Egg inside the Incubator, the Egg will hatch into a Pokémon.

Note: After used a certain number of times, Incubators can break and become unusable. Another will then have to be purchased at the Pokémart.

Level Up

In Pokémon Go, Trainers have the ability to gain Experience Points (XP) and Level Up. When a Trainer Levels Up he or she will become stronger. The higher the Trainer Level of a player, the easier it becomes capturing high CP Pokémon.

How to Level Up
Gaining enough XP will automatically result in a Level increase. That Level will be shown next to the Trainer's profile picture at the bottom of the screen.

In the early stages of the game (Levels 1 - 5) Leveling Up does not require much XP. However, as you progress through the later stages of the game, Leveling Up will progressively require more XP.

To Level Up quickly, focus on gaining experience points efficiently while reducing idle time such as traveling, checking inventory, Pokémon, Pokédex, etc.).

Being that bonus XP is awarded for capturing new Pokémon, be sure to keep track of which Pokémon you have captured and which ones you still need. The new capture bonus also works for hatching Eggs and Evolving Pokémon.

Level Up Item Rewards
Leveling Up not only enables players to capture better Pokémon, each Level Up may also result in Item rewards (depending on the specific level reached).

For example, reaching a certain level may reward a player with Great Balls, Ultra Balls or even a Master Ball! Keep leveling up to earn those free rewards.

Benefits for High Level Players
- Ultimately, higher level players will have stronger teams of Pokémon, and subsequently perform better when Battling at Gyms.

- Higher Level players will have better Pokémon that will be able to defend friendly Gyms for longer periods of time.

- Pokémon with higher CP levels can be found more often in the wild.

The following chart shows the XP requirements and rewards for each Level your Trainer gains:
