Power Up

Power Up in Pokémon Go refers to the action of permanently increasing the CP (Combat Points) and HP (Health Points) of a captured Pokémon.

Powered Up Pokémon will have increased Stats and therefore will perform better than weaker Pokémon (lower CP and HP) in Battles at Gyms. To Power Up a Pokémon, players will need to collect Candy and Stardust. These two forms of currency can be acquired through capturing wild Pokémon and hatching Eggs.

While Candy and Stardust are both required to Power Up a Pokémon, the amount of Stardust needed is much more than that of Candy.

Candy is mainly used to Evolve a Pokémon into more powerful species of Pokémon, while Stardust will train the current species Pokémon without changing its form.

To Power Up a Pokémon, follow these Steps:
#1. In Map View, touch the Main Menu.
#2. Touch Pokémon.
#3. Select a Pokémon to Power Up from your collection of Pokémon.
#4. In the Pokémon Information page, touch Power Up.

To Find Out How Much Stardust and Candy is Required to Power Up a Specific Pokémon, follow these Steps:
#1. In Map View, touch the Main Menu.
#2. Touch Pokémon.
#3. Select a Pokémon to Power Up from your collection of Pokémon.
#4. The amount of Candy and Stardust required to Power Up will be displayed on the Pokémon information screen (as shown in the picture above). Press Power Up to increase the stats of that particular Pokémon .

Note: If you choose to Evolve your Pokémon its Power will increase, and it will evolve into a different species of Pokémon. If you wish to keep the same Pokémon and train it without changing form, make sure to press Power Up. However, either option will increase the HP and CP of that Pokémon.

Best Methods for Powering Up & Evolving Pokémon

Stardust

In Pokémon Go, Stardust can be collected by capturing wild Pokémon and hatching Eggs. Unlike Candy, which is used to Power Up and Evolve a Pokémon specific to its evolution line, Stardust can be used to Power Up any captured Pokémon.

For example, if you have collected Stardust by capturing a Pikachu, you can use this Stardust to Power Up a captured Sandslash.

Powering Up a Pokémon with Stardust will increase its CP (Combat Points) and HP (Health Points), which will make that Pokémon stronger in Battle.

To see how much Stardust is required to power up a specific Pokémon in your collection, follow these Steps:

#1. In Map View, touch the Main Menu.
#2. Touch Pokémon.
#3. Select a Pokémon to view from your list of Pokémon.
#4. The amount of Stardust needed to Power Up a Pokémon will be displayed in the Pokémon Information screen. In the picture above, Ekans requires 100 Stardust plus 1 Ekans Candy to Power up its CP and HP. The specific Evolution from Ekans to Arbok would require 0 Stardust and 17 Candy.

Other Information About Stardust
- Players with defending Pokémon at a Gym, will get a 'Defender Bonus' and be rewarded with Stardust and Pokécoins.

Candy

In Pokémon Go, Candy can be collected by capturing wild Pokémon and hatching Eggs. Once enough Candy is collected it can be used to increase the CP (Combat Points) and HP (Health Points) of captured Pokémon. Increasing these stats will permanently make Pokémon stronger in Battle.

It is important to note that Candy is specific to each Pokémon Evolution family. For example, Squirtle Candy is obtained by catching and hatching any Pokémon in Squirtle's evolution line. This would include Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise

You will need Squirtle Candy to Power Up a SquirtleWartortle or Blastoise.

To see how much Candy is required to power up a specific Pokémon, follow these Steps:

#1. In Map View, touch the Main Menu.
#2. Touch Pokémon.
#3. Select a Pokémon to view from your list of Pokémon.
#4. The amount of Candy and Stardust needed to Power Up will be displayed in the Pokémon Information screen. In the example picture, this Ekans requires 100 Stardust plus 1 Ekans Candy to Power up its CP and HP. The specific Evolution from Ekans to Arbok would require 0 Stardust and 17 Candy.

Other Information About Candy
- Instead of releasing a wild Pokémon, it can be 'transferred to the Professor' and you will get 1 Candy for doing so.
